6991 SPN Fault Code

Name:

Number of Engine Cylinders to Exclude from Combustion

Description:

Request to the engine ECU for the number of cylinders to exclude from combustion (cut-out or skip) for a given instance in time. The engine ECU can decide on the cylinders to exclude from combustion. One of the use cases would be sending this parameter at low engine loads. If this parameter is set to 3 for a 6 cylinder engine, the receiving engine ECM would know the request is to exclude 3 of the 6 cylinders. If the sending node is to specify the cylinders to exclude from combustion, use SPN 6992-7015 Engine Cylinder xx Exclude from Combustion Request. Otherwise, those SPNs can be set to (11b – Do not care status). Alternatively, the application can choose to ignore updating this SPN (FFh to be sent), if specific cylinders are requested to be cut out. Should there be a discrepency between SPNs 6991 and the group of SPNs 6992-7015, the recepient will determine which has priority.
