7940 SPN Fault Code

Name:

Mechanical Movement Angle

Description:

The angle of rotation of the mechanical component. The increase and decrease of the value (i.e. rotation about the X-axis) is in accordance to the right-hand rule, as specified in SAE J670, with the positive X axis directed inward along the center line of the rotating shaft of the sensor. The angle value increases when the sensor shaft is rotated clockwise (as observed facing the rotating shaft toward the sensor) and the angle value decreases when the sensor shaft is rotated counterclockwise. The reported angle will wrap around if the sensor is capable of making more than a single rotation. When rotating clockwise the angle will go from 359.99 to 0.00, and when rotating counterclockwise the angle will go from 0.00 to 359.99. The 0 degree position is relative to the mounting of the sensor in the system and may require calibration to associate the raw angle to the specific system context.

7940 spn fault code name is Mechanical Movement Angle. If you don't take the time to look into 7940 spn fault when it arises, it can add up quickly. One small issue like 7940 can cause a larger component to become damaged without taking the time to investigate. If you suspect your truck is suffering from one of these issues, look into replacing those small components to save money down the road.

Note: The name and description of 7940 code represents text descriptions for faults supported by another coding system and does not necessarily comply with SAE J1939. For a specific engine manufacturer's explanation for codes, please consult the engine's technical manual. See also other spn codes.
